LondonStone Installation

For additional in-depth installation guidelines, please download and view the LondonStone Engineering & Installation PDF.

STEP 1: ESTIMATE THE NUMBER OF UNITS

A) Figure square footage of retaining wall (length of wall x height of wall = total sq. ft.)
B) Divide Total sq. ft. of wall by sq. ft. face area of unit = Total units needed
Example: Wall needed is 15′ long x 4″ high: 15 x 4 = 60 sq. ft. Using 7″ LondonStone; face area – .78 sq. ft. 60 / .78 sq. ft. = 77 units

STEP 2: PREPARE THE BASE
Place a leveling pad using 1/2″ – 3/4″ crushed stone, recycled concrete or gravel, approx. 6″ thick depending on the height of the wall.

STEP 3: INSTALL THE BASE COURSE
Start at the lowest elevation. Place and level each of the first course units side to side, front to back and with the adjacent unit.

STEP 4: BACKFILL
Install 12″ of drainage fill (3/4″ rock) behind each course. Compact these materials with a hand tamper or vibrating plate compactor.

STEP 5: INSTALL ADDITIONAL COURSES
Position the second course of LondonStone upon the preceding layer straddling the two lower units and staggering the vertical joints.
